Now Accepting Entries for Introspections
The Smithtown Township Arts Council is
now accepting entries for Introspections,
A Juried Self-Portrait Exhibition to be
held August 16 – September 22, 2008.
Juror Amy Mackie is an assistant curator
at the New Museum of Contemporary Art,
New York.
Artists are invited to submit work exploring
various modes of representing the self.
All media (drawing, painting, printmaking,
sculpture, video, film, sound, performance,
and installation) will be considered. Entry
deadline is July 1 2008, and must be submitted
as 300 ppi jpeg files on CD only. For prospectus

Island Museum
Calling all artists with an interest in Long Island!
Here’s a chance to have your work displayed in a museum!
All amateur and professional
artists are invited to participate in a very
special art contest in conjunction with our
upcoming exhibition, The Art Students League
of New York.
Prizes will be awarded for
best works with the theme, Summer on Long
Island. All entries must be submitted to
the Long Island Museum no later than July
11, 2008. Winning entries will be displayed
in the Art Museum from September 3 - 21,
2008.

The
Spring Art Fair On The Lake
Sunday, June 1, 2008

Yaphank, Long Island, NY
On Sunday, June 1, 2008 The Mill House Inn
will be hosting The Spring Art Fair On The
Lake. We are looking for artists to rent a
space to sell their work. This event will take
place outdoors on the grounds of The Mill House
Inn; a bar restaraunt on the lake in Yaphank
(exit 66 LIE).
In addition to the art exhibit there will
be great food, an outdoor bar, wine, and music.
This family event is free admission and a great
opportunity to network and get your work noticed.
As the fair approaches we will be inviting
local Long Island art gallery owners and staff
to attend the event. We will also be utilizing
our myspace
page to feature some of the artists participating
with a brief bio and a representation of their

The
Smithtown Township Arts Council is seeking works
ranging from the macabre to whimsical for Halloween
Midnight Oils, to be held October 4 – November
7th, 2008. Open to all media.
The
exhibition is in celebration of art’s awesome
power as a spiritual instrument that helps man
to transcend his primeval fear of death and of
the unknown. Juror Alain Khadem is not interested
in the gratuitously gory, but in works that portray
frightening subject matters in a philosophic,
romantic, or humorous light.
Early
entry is encouraged. Entry deadline is August
15, 2008, and must be submitted as 300 ppi jpeg

2008 Art Kudos International
Juried Competition
Artshow.com is
currently accepting entries for the 4th annual Art Kudos
Competition. $3,400 in awards. Open to all artists 18
and older. Eligible media include: acrylics, oils, watercolors,
pastels, drawings, printmaking, photography, digital
art, sculpture, and mixed media. Media not accepted:
video/film, installations, wearable art (clothing or
jewelry).
Juror: Pang-Chieh Hsu, recipient of the
prestigious Joan Mitchell Foundation Fellowship and an
instructor at Armstrong Atlantic State University.
Selected finalists will appear in an online

Request
for qualifications
The Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA), City of Pittsburgh
(City), Sports & Exhibition Authority (SEA) and the
Pittsburgh Penguins (Developer) are seeking a consultant
or consultant team to create a public art plan for the
Pittsburgh Arena which focuses on the exterior of the building
and the surrounding site. The new Pittsburgh Arena will
be the home for the Pittsburgh Penguins and will replace
their current arena, Mellon Arena, which was built in 1961.
The arena will also function as a multipurpose venue for
performing arts and entertainment. The consultant will
analyze the Pittsburgh Arena Master Development Plan, recommendations
from the Contextual Design Advisory Panel and meet with
City staff, project stakeholders and the community to develop
a comprehensive public art plan for the arena. The art
plan should provide for projects that depict the history,
present and future of Pittsburgh, the Hill District, Uptown
and the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Thirty Thousand Dollars ($30,000) is available for this project including all
expenses and travel.
The competition is open to established professional consultants or consultant
teams working within the United States. Students are not eligible to apply.

North Shore Art Guild meets the 1st
monday of the month at 7:30PM. Meetings are held at the miller place
high School, Memorial Drive, in Miller Place, NY. We have member
work critiques, demonstrations and art show news. NSAG also sponsers
an annual member show and an open juried show. For further information

Los
Angeles Center for Digital Art: Call For Artists
LACDA announces an open call for our juried competition featuring
digital art. Entrants submit three JPEG files of original work.
All styles of 2D (flat) artwork and photography created or
manipulated digitally will be accepted. Call is international,
open to all geographical locations.
The selected winner receives 10 large archival prints of their
work up to 44x60 inches on canvas or museum quality paper (approximately
a $1500-$2000 value) to be shown in a solo exhibition in our
gallery on Melrose Avenue. The show will be widely promoted
and will include a reception for the artist. Five second place
winners will receive one print of their work up to 44x60 inches
($150-$200 in value) to be included
in upcoming group shows. Second place winners will be scheduled
into group shows within twelve months of announcement of winners.

Special Opportunity
Stipends Available
Special Opportunity Stipends (SOS) for visual,
literary, media, and performing artists are available, with
February and May deadlines. Artists may request support ranging
from $50 to $500 for specific, forthcoming opportunities.
SOS is a project developed by the New York Foundation for
the Arts to assist individual artists in their work or career
development. It is made possible with public funds from the
NYSCA, as well as contributions from private foundations and
friends of NYFA.
SOS is administered on Long Island in Nassau and Suffolk
Counties bt the East End Arts Council under a consortium agreement
with the Babylon Citizens Council on the Arts, the Huntington
Arts Council, the Islip Arts Council, the Smithtown Township
Arts Council, the Council for the Arts on the North Shore,
the Long Beach Arts Council, and the Long Island Council for
the Arts at Freeport.
